Not Available for Purchase at ANY price!

Okay, this is starting to really get to me.

As most of you know, I lost my husband of 43 years to cancer in April. He was the love of life, my dearest friend, my partner, and the dearest thing in my life. Losing him cut to the quick and I still cry every night when I go to bed. The wound is still fresh and I ache like you wouldn't believe.

I don't know if some well-meaning person did this or someone who is just plain mean as hell but I have been getting things like this:

Charlee Compo! Did you know it takes less than 30 seconds to join True and start meeting singles in your area? Are you ready to meet that Special Someone? Press Here!

I have also gotten emails from Match.com, eHarmony, Catholic Match, Catholic Singles, and several other dating sites like Singles.net, Date Hookup, Chemistry, and the most offensive of all plentyoffish.com .

To say this is cruel would be to put it mildly. I've already had two proposals of marriage just from the single men in my CHURCH! These are men who were Tom's friends. If I hear one more, "Tom wouldn't want you to be alone" I'm gonna hit somebody. I also had a proposal from a complete stranger via the web. I have had old classmates who are widowed or divorced writing to let me know they are available. My answer to those men was I had the best and won't settle for the rest. I make it very clear I will never marry again. I may date but marriage is out of the question and yes, I am sure there will be no second marriage.

As a cartoon my friend sent me this morning when I vented this to her says: Some mornings it just doesn't pay to chew through the straps.

  1. Hi Charlotte, I get these all the time. It's terrible spam! I haven't lost my husband and I can't imagine what it would be like and to make it even worse, to receive something like this. I am deeply sorry.

Spam is unwanted, untimely, and inaccurate. I keep getting suggestions for penile enhancement on my personal email, and it clearly belongs to a FEMALE. What are they trying to say?

After 43 years I can't imagine what the loss must be like. I pray the best for you.

  3. Charlotte,

I didn't know you had this blog or about your husband, so while it’s nice to have a new way to connect with you, I’m saddened to read of your loss. I could only hope to have a wonderful friend, lover, and soul mate for half the amount of time you’ve shared with yours, and I know I would feel as devastated.

I don't understand the men in your church, and if I was there I would kick them in the knee for you (I try to control violence at some level). The sites are piranhas, need I say more?

Mourn and I'll mourn with you. I'll pray for you and yours and hope the men around you find the decency to give you peace while you adjust and learn to live again.

  4. Charlotte, I have watched my mother struggle with the loss of my dad for almost five years, they were married for 50 - I don't know what it's like to lose the love of my life, I never had one, but I have seen daily what kind of sadness and emptiness haunts my mother - I am so very sorry that you are experiencing something so devastating.

As to the proposals and insensitivity you are being subjected to, clearly people are not seeing or listening to you, or they wouldn't be intruding in such a way. The websites... well, it's business to them and as someone else noted, and beautifully, they are piranhas, and there is not humanity involved, just computers spitting out garbage in hopes of collecting money.

Prayers and hopes for an ease in your pain is all good people can offer, but even from far away and people who are virtual strangers, those blessings are sincere.

Be well, and I hope there is still something in each day that can make your smile, however briefly.

    Hugs,
    Denysé

  5. I'm so sorry for your loss.My sister lost her husband in March of 09 and I have seen how difficult that loss is.

I get the same type of spam on my yahoo accounts.Gmail seems to have a better spam filter. But it is harsh to look at it when you have had such a profound loss. Idiot spammers!
